Quick answer

Catch manageable creatures, finish them safely, sell ordinary catches and spend only when an upgrade removes a real bottleneck. Keep every unusual boss drop until the local quest is complete.

The core loop in four moves

  1. Hook a creature you can control. Learn the pull and fight rhythm on common catches before using boss bait.
  2. Create space and finish the fight. The physics are chaotic; avoid standing in the creature’s direct approach path.
  3. Sell ordinary catches to fund one useful upgrade at a time.
  4. Read the active quest before selling, eating or dropping anything that looks like a skull, fin, tail or trophy.

A practical first-hour route

Talk to every visible character at the lighthouse before roaming. Pick up free clams, use them for food or early cash, then buy the Basic Fishing Rod. Start with the free lure and easy crustaceans.

The supplied walkthrough prices the Basic Fishing Rod at $3, Hotdog Lures at $1 and the radar at $10. Those are source observations rather than a permanent economy guarantee, so re-check the shop after patches.

  • Build a small cash buffer on normal catches.
  • Choose either the knife or brass knuckles; improve the tool you can control.
  • Use the Beer Can sequence when you are ready for the first boss.
  • Buy the radar before the first longer boat trip.

The rule that saves a second boss fight

Bosses may scatter meat and a distinctive hand-in piece. Players describe these items as skulls, fins, tails or trophy-shaped parts. The label varies; the safe rule does not: pick up the unusual piece, return to the quest giver, then sell the leftovers.

Logbook note: In co-op, say who picked up the trophy and have that player present for the hand-in.
